Discord roles

Give members a role in your server.

A Discord reward gives members a role in your Discord server while they hold the Guild role, and takes it away when they lose it. Use it for holder channels, verified-member roles, tiers and anything else your server gates by role.

Connect your server

The first Discord reward in a guild connects your server and adds Guild's bot to it.

  1. In the admin panel, open Spaces & roles, select the role, and under Unlocks press Add reward.
  2. Pick Discord. If you haven't connected Discord to your Guild account, connect it first.
  3. Under Add new server, pick your server. The list shows the servers you own or have the Administrator permission in.
  4. If the bot isn't in the server yet, Discord opens in a new tab to invite it. Authorize it, then come back to Guild. The server is added once the bot has joined.

Servers you've already added appear under Already added servers next time. A server that's already connected to a guild is grayed out and can't be added again.

Set up the role

  1. Choose New role to have Guild create a Discord role with the name you enter, or Existing role to use a role already in your server, picked from the list.
  2. Decide what happens when a member loses access. By default Guild removes the Discord role. Switch on Keep role once earned to let members keep it, for example for an achievement.
  3. Press Add reward.

Put the bot's role above the roles it manages

Discord only lets a bot give and remove roles that sit below its own role. In your server's settings, under Roles, drag the Guild.xyz bot role above every role Guild manages. Guild shows a short guide for this when it's needed. If the bot's role is too low, members can't get their Discord role.

How it works for members

  1. They connect their Discord account to Guild.
  2. When they qualify for the role, they claim it, and Guild queues the Discord role. During busy periods the button shows Assigning role or Next in queue while they wait.
  3. Once they have it, the reward offers Go to server. If the role is missing in Discord, Reclaim asks Guild to assign it again.

When a member loses the Guild role, the Discord role is removed, unless the reward keeps it. Leaving the guild removes it either way.

Get members from Discord to Guild

Post your guild's link in a channel new members see, such as a pinned message in a "get-roles" channel, and explain what each role unlocks. Name Discord roles after the Guild roles that grant them, so the connection is obvious. The admin's Discord page lists your servers and the role rewards in each.
